[D-IL] | IL | D | D000563 | 0 | Genetically Engineered Foods Act - Amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to require Food and Drug Administration review and approval of all genetically engineered foods (as defined by this Act) prior to introduction into interstate commerce. (Includes split-use food, as defined by this Act, in such requirement.) Authorizes approval exemptions for a food category deemed not to be a food safety risk. Provides for trade secret protection.Directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish: (1) a program to test for the presence of genetically engineered ingredients in food from all stages of agricultural production to retail distribution; and (2) a genetically engineered food registry that contains the regulatory status of all such approved foods.Applies provisions respecting adulterated drugs and devices to genetically engineered animals (as defined by this Act). Sets forth application criteria, including provisions for: (1) protection of trade secrets; (2) environmental assessments.Subjects the provisions of this Act to prohibitions respecting: (1) unlawful use of trade secret information; and (2) adulterated food.Sets forth approval transition provisions for genetically engineered animals or food that enter interstate commerce before enactment of this Act. | 2025-08-19T17:29:43Z |
